Hyderabad: Matanand Foundation, in collaboration with Entod Pharmaceuticals launched Glaucoma Awareness Week Campaign, #GlaucomaMuktBharat, in Hyderabad. Dr L Prathima, Assistant Professor, Department of Glaucoma- Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, said “The global prevalence of glaucoma currently stands at 72 million, projected to rise to 90 million by 2040. Alarmingly, up to 90 per cent of cases go undiagnosed due to the absence of symptoms.
Early detection through screening is imperative as there is no cure for this disease, underscoring the importance of preserving vision. High-risk groups, including individuals above 40 years, those with a family history of glaucoma, and those with conditions like diabetes and hypertension, must undergo screening”.
As part of the Glaucoma Awareness Week, Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital is conducting the various initiatives including public awareness campaigns, rallies, seminars, essay writing competition, slogans and poster competition, patient education programmes and glaucoma screening program for all till March 16, 2024.
